Ive enjoyed binge watching your videos the past week so it was very disappointing to hear you replicate the incredibly racist trope that mexican pyramids might not have been built by humans. I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it but I would encourage you to look into it. It's not something that is ever said about white cultures. Some food for thought.

These type of tourists that run around with giant cameras photographing everything instead of meeting and getting to know the land and the culture are the bain of traveling. And they don't even realize it. You can't blame the locals for giving in to the revenue tourism can bring. I just wish tourists were better. They're the only invasive species in Costa rica.

If you take a green train, you have to be mentally prepared to be with comparatively not-that-rich and less educated people mainly migrant workers, farmers et al. You are extremely unlikely to be with internet gurus, business and real estate tycoons, professors, doctors, PhDs et al. These people will take planes and HSR instead.

I love Colombia so much that I married a Colombiana and we own property there. When I first arrived, many years ago, I travelled up from Ecuador. My 1st week was in Popayan, Cali and Bogota. I was a being a bit over-cautious, very different for me, I like to travel on the edge but the Australian Government "Smart Traveller" website had Popayan and Cali at the second highest threat level and Bogota wasn't much lower. Around day 10, I arrived in San Gil and I was sitting in the plaza, families were playing , teenagers were cuddling on benches, a man came and sold me a coffee and I'd never felt as comfortable in my life. It was in that plaza that I truly fell in love with Colombia. I'm sad that the man got robbed but it is the dark underbelly of Colombia. My wife's generation were bought up with extreme violence, my wife, often, had to run from corner to corner, dodging bullets, to get to and from school. They were sick of violence so the 2000s were such a happy time, there. Now the young people who didn't live through the violence are living the "Hollywood" version of Colombia. It really broke my heart when we visited in 2022. One thing that doesn't get mentioned enough, about Medellin, was the "Guns for Musical Instruments" scheme. People could bring in their gun and do straight swaps for guitars or drums etc. This was set up but the local Mayor, Uribe I believe, and, again I believe, this was the most successful gun buy back scheme ever in the world. A symbol of this is at the Antioquia Museum, near where you saw Botero's sculptures. It is a AK47 that has been converted into an electric guitar. VIVA COLOBIA Oh and Kim. Colombia is a beautiful country. When I was there in the 70's it was already known for quite a bit of violence (at that time, it was associated with emeralds, not drugs) and Venezuela next door was where people went instead. Now, everyone goes to Colombia and Venezuela is not stable enough to visit.
